Salve cari amici bibliofili !

Oggi voglio condividere con voi le illustrazioni di un artista italiano che reputo molto, molto bravo, Andrea De Santis.

Andrea, tra le altre cose, collabora come illustratore per alcuni dei più importanti magazines statunitensi, come WWD, REDBOOK e OPRAH magazine. Quelle che vedete qui di seguito le ho scovate per caso su Pinterest, Behance e facebook in questi ultimi mesi; erano state pubblicate a giugno sul quotidiano tedesco Die Zeit. Queste illustrazioni compongono una fantastica serie sul piacere di leggere, mostrando in modo originale, efficace ed immediato gli effetti benefici della lettura !

Leggere per me è un misto di tutte e quattro le cose, è come volare, è essere intrepidi e curiosi, è galleggiare in un mare di parole, finalmente liberi, è rilassarsi, è attraversare una porta misteriosa … Chissà dove ci porterà !

World Book Day … in the UK !

I was a little confused and surprised this morning, when I opened my pc and found Twitter in a book fever ! This calendar thing is curious, isn’t it? Every nation can decide its own date to celebrate whatever it needs to be globally celebrated. In the UK today is

#WorldBookDay

… and I was very happy to discover this wonderful celebration. Firstly because I love books, obviously ! Secondly, because I love the United Kingdom. And thirdly  … because all over the world people are tweeting, posting bookish status and talking about books, and they dress up as the characters they love, and they READ ! So, in a certain  way, we can talk really about a global celebration, even though this is a national one. Everyone, in every part of the earth connected by internet, feels in need to share their love for books, today. They are not waiting for the 23rd of April. Or May. I opened this blog because for me every day is dedicated to books, to reading and to writing stories, to share emotions and opinions about them. When all over the world this kind of book fever happen, it doesn’t matter why, or when, or who. It’s always good. And I love it ! So thank you guys, thank you, today I feel part of something big.

I’m Italian, but seen what I’ve just written, I want to celebrate in the best way I know, with three lists :  #amreading, #toread, #justread !

A wonderful initiative in Germany !! / Una splendida iniziativa in Germania !

We are in Cologne, Germany.
In the city have been installed five structures of this type in which anyone can takethe books of their choice and maintaining others. The exchange take place anonymously, without registration or deadlines. You simply open the door and choose the title among those offered in the ”library”.
Aubermann Michael, one of the promoters of the project, said that the project is open to anyone. In the city libraries are already widely used and others are to belocated in Bonn, Hannover and Berlin. The areas in which they are installed are not random: they preferred the poorer areas of cities where access to books is more difficult.

In città sono state installate cinque strutture di questo tipo in cui chiunque può prendere i libri che preferisce e lasciarne altri. Lo scambio avviene in maniera anonima, senza registrazioni né scadenze. Basta semplicemente aprire l’anta e scegliere il titolo tra quelli offerti nella “libreria”.
Michael Aubermann, uno dei promotori del progetto, sottolinea che il progetto è aperto a chiunque. In città le librerie sono già molto utilizzate e altre stanno per essere posizionato a Bonn, Hannover e Berlino. Le aree in cui vengono installate non sono casuali: sono privilegiate le zone più povere delle città dove l’accesso ai libri risulta più difficoltoso.

This made me reflect on how poor my actual knowledge of fantasy is … and say that I considered myself an expert! However, Temeraire by Naomi Novik is brilliant !!!
